BIOGRAPHY
Melissa Vinh is an artist who grew up in northern Virginia and currently majors in Architecture with a minor in Business Entrepreneurship at the University of Virginia. Her early passion for drawing and painting eventually transformed into a love for architecture, a more physical expression of art. She is completely self taught and is currently perfecting her skills in watercolor paintings that are inspired by the world around her.
As of late, she is combining her love for traveling and drawing into a new style called urban sketching, a form of art that celebrates the essence of a place. In addition to her expertise in architectural drawing, she is also experienced in portraits, landscape, and other fun artistic styles. She is a 3x published artist and has work featured in several national magazines in addition to various art awards.
ARTIST STATEMENT
There are two types of artwork I construct. There are those that I design purely for the joy of myself and expressing my emotions. And those that I create for the satisfaction and delight of others. After laboring over an art piece for hours, days, or sometimes months, I am once again reminded of why I go through it all: the joy of evoking feeling. While creating artwork for myself, I am also working to generate a feeling of inspiration and wonder in the people around me. Achieving this is my greatest reward. While I don’t limit myself to a specific medium, I especially love working with watercolors. Watercolor brings a certain aspect of life and light that I can’t achieve with any other medium. Every paint stain and accidental splash of watercolor is what makes each piece unique. The world around us is filled with beauty and life, and my goal is to bring a little of that beauty into my art.
My hope is to give to you, whoever you may be, a stranger or a friend, beautiful artworks that capture some of your most cherished memories. Whether it’s your beloved home, college building, travel pictures, or even pet, my mission is to preserve your most treasured milestones and moments through my art.
